Shincheonji Volunteer Eastern Seoul Branch Shined “Home of Peace” With the Full Moon in 104 Village, Junggye-dong, Nowon-gu, Seoul

150 members of Shincheonji Volunteer Eastern Seoul Branch painted a mural on “Home of Peace (nursing home)” at 104 Village, Junggye-dong, Nowon-gu, Seoul.

The mural painting volunteer project started on 9th June and was finished in a week. The mural volunteer project, “Wall Story”, aims to unite the hearts of locals for the development of the local community, under the theme of “One”. The theme implies tearing down walls of stereotypes of classes, sexes, religions, or political opinions that lead to numerous conflicts, which divide society.

Traditionally, Koreans made wishes for the prosperity of the village and for having a rich year, while looking upon the full moon every Daeboreum (the day of the first full moon of the lunar year). Like so, the members wanted the villagers of 104 Village who visit Home of Peace to unite their hearts and make wishes. With that precious thought, they painted the mural of the big full moon, * jwibullori, and * ganggangsulae on the walls of Home of Peace under the theme of “One Heart Given to the Moon”.

* Jwibullori: A traditional Korean game played on the eve of Daeboreum. People burn dry grass on the ridges of rice paddies and fields, while others spin cans of flames attached to the end of a stick or sling in wide circles.

* ganggangsulae: traditional Korean circle dance play. It’s done by women under the bright full moon.

Shincheonji Volunteer Eastern Seoul Branch ran social contribution projects; “Hurrah 100”, which is a volunteer project for helping senior citizens, “Nature, Let’s Be Green”, which is an environmental purification project, “Visiting Health Doctor”, which is a free medical service, “The More, the Better”, which is a program that calms mental by sharing succulent plants, etc.

Home of Peace is a welfare center for the old who stay at home, which is located at 104 Village, Junggye-dong, Nowon-gu. It was run by its own money for 36 years, without receiving government subsidy.

Home of Peace officials said, “Home of Peace is a hall for everyone in 104 Village, but it broke my heart when I saw the walls were cracked and their colors were faded. Therefore, we requested Shincheonji Volunteer to paint the walls.”

Shincheonji Volunteer officials said, “Even if the village is facing redevelopment and there is only a short time to visit Home of Peace, we hope the villagers enjoy visiting the beautifully decorated Home of Peace.”

A villager, who saw the old walls were beautified, said, “The paint of the moon is pretty and the blue color is so beautiful. It reminds me of making wishes upon the moon on Daeboreum when I was little.”

  1. This is a beautiful post. 100,000 members of Shincheonji took part in a blood drive in South Korea in 2022 to restore the blood crisis that resulted from the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic. It’s most encouraging that people would sacrifice and serve in this way in the challenging era of today #ShincheonjiChurch
